Welcome welcome! I’m so excited about launching this series, as music is one of the biggest parts of my life. Music has always an integral part of my world, and my taste in artists and musicians is pretty broad.
Each Tuesday, I’ll share a list of songs or artists I’ve been enjoying recently, and link a Spotify playlist for you to check out yourself!
Let’s dive in, shall we? This week is a mix of pop, indie, and covers.
Champagne Clouds – Malia Civetz
This song is so stinking pretty. Civetz’ vocals are sweet like honey on the chorus, and I found myself bopping my head along from the first listen. I also really appreciate the simplicity of the acoustic accompaniment!
The Way You Love Me – Nancy Daines
THESE LYRICS ARE SO CUTE, and the melody is really beautiful. And also, I feel like I need to send this song to my husband as a little love note <3
Both Sides Now – Kathleen
A modern take on a Joni Mitchell classic. I can’t hear this song without thinking of Love Actually, but this cover by Kathleen maintains the integrity of the original masterpiece, while giving it a bright update with a pop-centric production.
Chew On My Heart – James Bay
James Bay is a favorite generally, but this new song is so catchy, and more upbeat than his usual work. This single is one of my favorites of the summer.
Nobody Cares – Abigail Barlow
I might be Abigail Barlow’s newest biggest fan. This girl is a pop icon in the making, I’m calling it now (and for the record, I also called that Carly Rae Jepsen would blow up right before Call Me Maybe became mainstream back in 2012, so I’m proud of my track record for this sort of thing). Nobody Cares is off Barlow’s new EP “Abigail” and while the entire EP is full of BOPS, I think Nobody Cares is my fave. It gives me such nostalgia for the days of getting ready to go out (remember that?) with friends in my early twenties. I’ll be belting this in the shower for the foreseeable future.
Midnight Sky – Miley Cyrus
Is anyone who knows me surprised at all that my first Tuesday Tunes had to include some Miley? No? Good, that means I’m staying “on brand” 😉
Midnight Sky is probably my favorite single by Miley since the Bangerz era. It’s very 1980s-Pat Benetar-y which I ADORE. I’ve listened to it multiple times a day since it first dropped last week, and if it were 2009 and we still set songs as ringtones (or if I kept my phone on anything besides silent) I’d be making it my ringtone in a heartbeat.
