Whelp, I launched this little site just over a week ago and in that time frame football came back, cold weather came in, and I had a minorrrr trip to the Emergency Room for a spider bite that just would.not.go.away. (Don’t worry, I’m fine, on a third round of antibiotics and for the first time in a month and a half, my leg doesn’t look like something out of a Grey’s Anatomy episode!)
Needless to say–not the launch week I had intended (skin care! oils! recipes!). And instead its been a lot of Netflix (ANYONE ELSE OBSESSED WITH JULIE AND THE PHANTOMS?!), pizza (Alex ordered me a pizza sampler on Friday night, and it was amazing) and sleeping.
BUT I’M BACK, and ready to go with today’s Tuesday Tunes. So let’s dive in, shall we?!
Hysteria – Matt Nathanson
First off, Matt Nathanson can do no wrong. Second, neither can Def Leppard. Combine the two and you get one of my favorite things. Nathanson’s cover of Hysteria is honestly one of the best songs I’ve heard in 2020, and I haven’t gotten it out of my head since I first listened to it last week. It’s a perfect combination of modern vocals and piano, while still keeping the integrity of the song. I’m in love.
Let’s Stay Home Tonight – NEEDTOBREATHE
NEEDTOBREATHE is a new-to-me band that apparently has been around for like two decades. Who knew. Is this song more country? More rock? I don’t know. But what I do know is I love the vibe and I love the lyrics and I hope you do too.
Black Coffee Morning – Bluebird
This song is just…its beautiful. I love the imagery, I love the lyrics, I love the production, I love the vocals. There is nothing wrong with this song. Add it to your workday playlist. Trust me.
The Breakup Song – Francesca Battistelli
Francesca Battistelli is absolutely one of my favorite Christian/Worship singers, and this song is by far my favorite of hers! Been jamming a lot to it this week because it is a *great* motivational song for any situation when you’re feeling down (you know, like when you’re feeling like hot garbage and have to go to the ER bc of a spider bite you got while drinking aperol spritz’ on your roofdeck in South Philly).
Bright – Julie and the Phantoms
Honestly, I’ll probably do a whole review of Julie and the Phantoms in a few days, because I love it THAT much, but even if you don’t watch the show on Netflix (which you should), listen to the soundtrack. 16 year old Madison Reyes (from PA!) is an absolute STAR and Charles Gillespie is the pop-punk Troy Bolton of my 2000s teenage dreams. The entire soundtrack is absolutely delightful (shoutout to Cheyenne Jackson for his catchy featured tunes, too) but this song has been on repeat since Friday (much to Alex’s chagrin 😉 )
Thats all for this week’s Tuesday Tunes–as always, please share your music finds and favorites in the comments!
